M.2 AE key (A+E key) is primarily used for wireless communication modules like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth cards in laptops and other devices. It can also be used for certain SSDs, but generally not NVMe. Adapters exist to allow use of these modules in other M.2 slots, like M key slots, or to connect SATA devices to A+E key slots.
